Our museum cares deeply for the environment therefore we always work to lower our environmental impact. Starting with small steps, we recycle and separate our rubbish and donate it to businesses that deal with different types of waste. But also, we choose the best equipment and machinery that has high efficacy with the lowest electricity and water usage. We always strive to lower our carbon footprint and impact on the environment, it’s a learning process and we aim to benefit from it every day to achieve the best results.
NMEC Carbon Footprint Report
Message from NMEC’s CEO
It is my great pleasure to announce that the cooperation between National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) and DCarbon has resulted in producing the first report in Egypt for a museum on calculating the car-bon footprint. With the publishing of this re-port, NMEC will be the first museum on the national level to be awarded a document that certifies its Carbon footprint.
We believe that the cooperation conducted between NMEC and DCarbon is a success-ful attempt to make NMEC an eco-friendly museum that celebrates Egypt’s Sustain-able Development Strategy adopted by the Egyptian Government (Egypt Vision 2030), which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, NMEC as an integral part of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities aims at enhancing the Ministry’s plans to deepen the environmental aware-ness among its different institutions. We look further to future cooperation with DCarbon on other projects aiming at preserving and protecting the environment and its natural resources.
NMEC will always consider climate change as a major challenge not only during the re-ported period, but also during the upcoming years. With being the first museum in Egypt to publish its Carbon Footprint report, NMEC is proud to announce its first GHG Inventory for the reported year 2021-2022. Maintaining a low Carbon Footprint of the museum is a key strategic priority and requires us to look afresh at how we run the Museum and the extent to which we consider the GHG emissions from our operations.
At NMEC, we are thoughtfully considering how to drive the shift towards a reduced Carbon Footprint in the archaeological sector. One of our main goals is positive-ly impacting the environment and climate through actions taken within our museum aiming to measure, control, compare and reduce our Carbon Footprint. We strive to reach the minimum Carbon Footprint to minimizing its negative impacts.
Throughout our first Carbon Footprint re-port, we share NMEC’s GHG’s Emissions during the reported year 2021-2022, and a selection of our targets for moving forward into a climate conscious and environmentally restorative future that we all hope to see. During the reported year 2021-2022, we welcomed 848,674 visitors to our museums.
The coming years will be challenging as we work through the consequences of the cli-mate change, as well as tracking and reducing our Carbon Footprint, However, with the help of the museum’s teamwork, visitors and supporters, we will thrive.
